no idea
The following are photos of the Grand Harbour Hotel restaurant room, breakfast area, bar and foyer
Looking towards the bar
Looking from the bar to the reception on the left and the dreaded stairs. :)
My taxi arrived around 10:25 and I was out at the airport by 10:45. Through immigration and security and then waited for the boarding gate to come up on the departure screen. I know they do this at Heathrow but was surprised that the smaller European airports are also doing it. I.e., the departure gate doesn't go up on the board until 30 to 45 minutes before departure. A real pain in the butt.
At Malta airport, after checking in, to reach the gates area, you need to then scan your boarding pass, go through security, then the duty free shopping, before getting to the gates. I bought a bottle of Merlot yesterday for €7.50. Same was for sale in duty free for €8.50.
The departure area of Malta airport reminds me of what the old Adelaide airport used to be like, 50 odd years ago. Just the size of it.
We boarded from gate 3 and a man came along with his sniffer dog, who didn't seem particularly interested in sniffing but I bet if he sniffed something interesting, we would have known about it.
Bussed out to the plane which was a Dash 8. Carry-on was allowed to be taken on to the plane. By the time I got to my seat, no room in the overheads, so it went under the seat in front. Not a lot of leg room but I survived.
The meal consisted of a dried ham & cheese roll. Had about 2 mouthfuls and that was it. Also some cookies, which I have just had with my coffee here in my room, before heading to bed. They were nice and fresh.
Landed at 3.40pm and the Thessaloniki flight departed at 5.40pm. Greece is an hour ahead of Malta, so I just lost an hour of the day. Same thing here, re the gate info.
On board the flight by 5.30 and it took off on time.
Arrival in Thessaloniki.
The plane stopped on the tarmac, just near the terminal. We all deplaned, got on a bus, which pretty much did a u-turn, pulled up in front of the terminal and we all got off. Would have been quicker to walk from the plane to the terminal.
My suitcase arrived, after some guy thought it was his. I asked him if he was doing the Bunnik tour, as I had their RED strap around my luggage. No he wasn't, so I'm not sure why he thought my bag might have been his. Anyway, I met another couple who are on the tour and the 3 of us were met in the arrivals hall and brought here to the City Hotel. They are from Adelaide. Roger & Helen.
After checking in and dropping the luggage, I went down to the bar to grab a bite to eat. Not many people there and I had a lovely chat with young Stephanie, who was behind the bar and doing the waitressing also. I had their special, Pork with salad and either a beer or wine. €9.50. She threw in another glass of wine, on the house. The pork was a bit dry but the salad was delicious.
Back to my room and have sorted out what I'm wearing for the next couple of days and will now head to bed, as it's almost 11:30pm.
I'm glad that I did the photos this morning, while waiting for the taxi.
Night all.
